While we were compiling the arches page for the new Parts and Accessories catalogue (it will happen soon honest), we came across some interesting arch pictures, together with explanations:
Bodywork has to be cut away for extra large wheels to be fitted, and wheel arches can also be modified as the fibreglass arches cover large areas. Some of these kits have ended up on road cars (might be illegal) but most are fitted to out and out racers on either space frame bodies or superlight shells.
The MSA 129 Superflares were originally used until a guy in California introduced the more aerodynamic MSA 130 Kit. The MSA 130 NASA Type front wings now have a strengthening lip and the rear arch became a half body side. The spoiler stayed the same on both Kits.
Originally designed for SCCA racing in the USA to accommodate 13" wheels and extra wide racing profile tyres.
The arches when fitted, stick out approximately 4" on both the fronts, and 4" on the Superflares rear, 11/z" e x t r a approximately 51/z" on the rears.

Importation rules regarding vehicles are very specific: Only those over 25 years in age may be brought in to the USA without compilance to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
