Mini Spares Articles - Historical Article-August 1994-Shiny Knobs
SHINY KNOBS The British Touring Car Championship has brought about a massive increase in popularity of saloon car racing. Mainly because of the extremely "close" racing, but also because people can easily relate to the cars as they are standard production bodies - well, externally at least. The extremely high standard of preparation has brought about the use of all sorts of high tech products that has created many "new" lines for the car accessory market - dominated by the use of aluminium and kevlar (look alike mostly). Everything from dash-boards, door finishers, even down to the gear knob. And it is here that Mini Spares wins through again! lVR have also taken to fitting a round aluminium gear knob to their cars. We have produced our own, 52mm diameter, totally spherical gear knob, in satin finish aluminium. It will fit all Minis, Metros and even Maestros and Montegos. We are well aware that there is another accessory manufacturer doing these, although theirs has an ugly tube sticking out as it has to be universal. Ours obviously doesn't.

Theirs costs £41 .00; ours a mere £ 17.63!!

I spoke to Myk Cable tonight, to see if he was considering suicide. Apparently, his other cars are doing well (Braggins IS.. Co), because they are using last year's spec. Unfortunately, Myk is using this year's spec, which is where all the trouble lies.

Importation rules regarding vehicles are very specific: Only those over 25 years in age may be brought in to the USA without compilance to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
