Ever since Tom Seal offered me a glass of Portugese Rose, I could see he was hankering for an Iberian experience. He had his opportunity last year,when he was approached by Portugese Historic racer Rui Costa,a man searching for more power for his racing Cooper S.Although Costa was recognised as a good driver,he was always struggling against the BDA-powered Escorts and Porsches in the championship, and needed something a bit special to compete.
When Tom completed the build of his new Arden 8-Ported,Amal-carbed power unit, plus a few well chosen chassis tweeks (already tried and tested),Costa immediately found himself on the winner's podium. 1 win and 3 seconds later,he is currently leading the championship.!
TECH SPEC
The engine uses an Arden Mini Spares 8-Port cylinder head running 12.2: 1 compression ratio,super unleaded fuel ,as all 8-port heads come fitted with unleaded valve seats.The Mini Spares Amal carburettor kit was used and all the gas flowing work was carried out by C.LS in Aylesbury - their Supaflow Airflow rig really does sort out the cylinder heads that work from the one's that don't..
