MINI SPARES PERFORMANCE OIL PUMPS

The requirements of modern automated mass production of commercially available oil pumps has necessitated the opening up of manufacturing tolerances to help rapid assembly.  As a majority of the internal components are close to – and in many cases exceeding – their maximum tolerances the oil is recirculating within the pump rather than being passed to the engine.  This results in a rapid drop in oil pressure under arduous conditions such as racing.  To solve this problem all internals and cases are machined in matched sets and built by hand to Mini Spares’ exacting specifications.  This new range of pumps is available for the different drive types.  As the original pump has always been more than sufficient for the Mini engine (some 40% of it gets dumped straight back into the sump via the relief valve) it was not necessary to change it.  Consistent flow and pressure was the main concern, not super high oil pressure as this does nothing to enhance engine performance.  In fact it costs BHP!  All oil pumps @ £19.98 each.  To supplement the new super-efficient oil pumps, we have uprated our centre oil pick up pipe.  This piece of equipment is essential for all modified engines and fast road driving.  It ensures a continuous oil supply to the engine under hard cornering.  The pipe features a revised filter screen, which has a such greater filtering capability by utilising the finest mesh possible without restricting oil flow.  The extra filtering extends effective pump life considerably, not to mention reduced “foreign-body” damage to bearings, crank and all other engine internals.  Oil pressure relief valve sticking is almost eradicated.  Part number C-AHT54, @ £17.33.

CON RODS AND BOLTS

Available ex-stock for the first time in many years is the AEG309, 970 Cooper ‘S’ con rod, which comes out of the same tooling as our AEG624, 1275 ‘S’ con rod.  Both rods are £61.10 each.  People using ‘S’ rods, especially racers, have experienced problems lately with con rod bolts stretching or breaking.  To rectify this problem Mini Spares pursued an intensive research programme which enabled a special bolt to be manufactured to a higher specification than currently available in both machining accuracy and type of material.  By using a higher grade material, heat treated to an optimum, vastly reduces stretch under torqueing. Carefully controlled accuracy during production to our specifications ensures a good fit, cap location and minimal thread distortion.  The combination of these features provides a bolt that will minimise failure.  Part number C-AEG519, @ £4.31 per bolt.  To complement this bolt an alternative competition nut and bolt set is available where a supergrade bolt is produced to outstanding specification and accuracy featuring a knurled section that can be tailored to fit ‘S’ rods if you ream the con rod bolt holes.  Using the competition rod bolt effectively reclaims con rods that have worn rod bolt holes that would previously have been disregarded.  Available as a kit only.  Part number C-STR288, @ £44.06.

MAIN CAPS, STUDS AND NUTS

Cooper ‘S’ main cap studs and nuts – once deleted product lines from BL – are now available again from Mini Spares.  The studs are a faithful reproduction of the originals in a set only, part number AEG323, @ £18.80.  The nuts are latest generation multi-point items- not totally original but a somewhat higher specification, also available as a kit.  Part number C-AJJ4013 @ £6.99.  The 4 bolt centre main cap is a result of race development work, particularly where long stroke cranks or very high revving engines are used.  The substantial cap is engineered to give maximum crank location and its four bolt configuration increases block rigidity across the centre web.  The overall engine stiffness achieved promotes longer crank life while also Part number C-AGA619, cost including bolts @ £76.38.
