Spencer Wanstall Mini Se7en Round 1 + 2: Castle Combe Weekend Report

Going into the first two rounds of 2017 we were feeling stronger and more confident than ever. Going into the first two rounds of 2017 we were feeling stronger and more confident than ever. We had picked up some great support over the winter and were feeling very optimistic going into the 2017 season, with the aim of achieving race wins, which should also propel us up the championship table with the ultimate aim of hitting the top spot.
However, the weekend didn’t go according to plan, and 2017 couldn’t have got off to a worse start for us unfortunately. Qualifying for the Mini Se7en’s commenced at 9.30, and being third in the queue to go out I was in a good position to get a tow and set some good times early on in the session. As I started my first lap and was warming the tyres up the car was feeling good and I was ready to go. Coming across the line to start my first flying lap I feel the car is not quite right, and a loss of power sees me pull into the pit lane on lap 2. Despite the best efforts by Rightline Motorsport to get me back up and running and out there, it appeared the problem was not going to be an easy fix. Back to the pits we went to see if we were going to be able to salvage anything from the weekend. However it quickly became clear that we had a problem with the engine which would need further investigation back at the workshop, and therefore it was weekend over before it had even started for me. Going forward, we are already getting it sorted and will be coming back fighting at Snetterton for rounds 3+4 on 13th and 14th May. We know what the problem was and are confident we have now fixed it. It was not just a bad weekend for myself, with current champion Ashley Davies also suffering some bad luck seeing him also scoring 0 points over the weekend. I also congratulate Lewis Selby on grabbing 2 wins in greatly fought out races. Importation rules regarding vehicles are very specific: Only those over 25 years in age may be brought in to the USA without compilance to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
