When we started on the electronic management system for our 8-Port, it was also our idea to make a system for the latest fuel injection Minis. At the same time,Glyn Swift (Swiftune) had started work on a unit with M.B.E.Electronics,but even at a fairly advanced stage, it was still having reliability problems,so it was withdrawn from the market. Swiftune,as you will know from previous articles, are highly regarded by those in the know,so we decided to leave the development work of the new management system to them, let them iron the problems out, then Mini Spares would buy the finished article when it was ready.
To date, even with their supremely advanced head designs and dyno facilities, coupled with years of race-winning engine building experience, Swiftune have yet to squeeze more than a very creditable 82 BHP out of an engine fitted with this system, reduced to 78 BHP when the radiator and Cat go back on.
Now we would suggest that any company claiming to get,say,90 BHP out of more or less the same system, manufactured by same people, and further allowing for the great chasm of difference between the levels of expertise of that company and Swiftune .... would need to buy a new dyno.
(That's one of those machines that can measure an engine's power output.Quite useful sometimes).
