Cable Fault Finding

Yes, Myk Cable had a miserable 1994 season by his standards.
The three times Mini Miglia champion's expectations were high after a self-imposed year lay off. His 1293 spec had tested well in Spain, and he had been quietly confident that the 1994 engine was as good as any he had built before, and certainly as competitive as any of the others.
And when someone of Myk Cable's stature mentions a 'handling problem', you more or less assume that he is within a tweek or two of fine-tuning the chassis as he has done a dozen times before. But no.
The handling problem obstinately refused to go away, and no amount of adjustment or age-old remedies would cure the problem. Race after Race, it seemed harder and harder to get on the pace, and alarm bells were now ringing so loudly, it sounded like Quasimodo had discovered bungy jumping.
The penny finally dropped far too late, when attention was focussed on pre-season chassis preparation. As part of a weight saving exercise it turned out, Myk had removed some
of the rear subframe, and fitted new locating bolts, which also had the effect of stiffening the chassis via the rollcage.
An eagle-eyed scrute decided that these bolts were illegal, and demanded their removal at the beginning of the season.
Unfortunately, the bolts were performing another function - effectively re-inforcing the rear end, and so now that they had been removed, the sub-frame was literally shifting from side to side under cornering.
Not good.
Still, Myk can reflect with a wry smile, how his old chassis took Chris Lewis to victory, and how Dave Braggins became runner up in Mini Se7ens, with a Cabmann prepared car.
I don't think he'll be making the same mistake with his own car next year though.
