The 2009 series got underway at Rockingham on a cold blustery spring day  that didn’t help much to heat up the tyres not to battle against the strong headwind.

However Andy Hack claimed pole position from Ralph Saunders who managed his fastest time on his first flying lap! Mark Smith lined up behind Andy Hack. Mark Smith looked very quick with what sounded like a very powerful engine.

Sarah Munns ligned up sixth on the grid, a worried look on her face belied her anticipation in the race in a very competitive car.
All in all it promised to be a very close race, Hack neat and late on the brakes, Smith with a very quick car only to get past Saunders as quickly as possible, Endaf Owens looking menacing, (he should wear an open-faced helmet, it would scare anyone who dares to be in front of him).

The flag drops and as predicted Smith dives on the inside of turn one, quicky past Saunders, then two corners later he’s past Hack. Great move.

Saunders now has Endaf on his tail, with Sarah Munns fending off Niven Burge, but sadly Sarah peeles off thinking her clutch has broken, only to discover that third gear would keep jumping out. Great showing, More yet to come in the year I'm sure.
Back at the Front Hack has taken the lead back from Smith at Deene, Endaf Owens slipping past Saunders on the next lap. The two would hold each other up over the next two laps helping the leading duo of Hack and Smith to break away.
At the flag, Andy Hack is only 1.6sec. ahead of Smith, Saunders holding Endaf Owens to take a hard fought 3rd place.

On to Silverstone next, 22, 23, 24th May. See you there.
