With the engine and new 5 speed transmission re-installed in the vehicle, the new gear selector parts must be fitted before re-connecting the gear selector extension shaft. The new selector parts can be assembled without removing the gearchange remote from the vehicle. It is recommended that the gear lever be removed from the remote unit for inspection and replaced if damaged. Your lever should be lubricated before re-installation.

Before starting to refit the following:

1) Remove the roll pin and disconnect the coupling from the gear selector extension rod.
2) Fit the new gate bias barrel, onto the extension rod, with the circlip towards the gear lever. The exposed ends of the spring must sit either side of the steady rod above the extension rod. (It is not recommended the steady rod be greased where the ends of the spring contact).
3) Slide the bias barrel back towards the gear lever to a distance of 75mm when measured from the coupling end of the extension rod to the front face of the barrel (do not lock the gate barrel grub screw at this point).
4) Re connect the coupling to the extension rod, and to the gearbox selector shaft with new roll pins. (NOT SUPPLIED)
5) From inside the car select the lever into 3rd or 4th gear.
6) Check again the measured distance of the gate barrel, and the location of the ends of the spring around the steady rod (as previously described). Now lock the grub screw in the side of the barrel to the extension rod. When locked reselect neutral.
7) Remove the standard bottom cover from the remote control unit of the gear lever. Fit the new bottom cover with its raised guide plate towards the near side of the vehicle. Replace the locating screws being careful not to overtighten them. (It may be necessary to adjust the bottom cover around the screws to achieve a smooth gear change action before they are finally tightened).
