THANK YOU-IMM 2014—BEST International Mini Meet ever WITH A REBUILD FOR CHARITY

The mini spares team arrived on the Thursday 31st July  at the Kent show ground and people were clambering over the posh marquee before all the superb displays and stock could properly be set up.

Also on display was Keith Dodd’s cut down Bronze Yellow Cooper S Mk3 Sprint,

This old race car on dry suspension with blended in metal wheel arches is probably how he would have modified and changed the car during the reckless days for Mini Coopers during the 1970/80’s before values climbed.. With the best power available on a 1430cc “ S” block it has a fuel injected Race 8 port head. The Sprint is the only of it kind and is an alternative to compliments his other MK3 Cooper S which has been rebuilt as standard with original hydrolastic suspension.

The car build team were in place to start the Mini rebuild on the 1st August .

The proposal was to build the brand new Heritage supplied shell which was painted and prepared by PJ crash repairs from Potters Bar, with Mini Spares new parts plus certain fittings such as glass, handbrake and pedal box etc from a1990  donor car, and start it by 4pm on Sunday 3rd  the final show day.

New subframes from Heritage were built up and fitted whilst trimming was started in the car .

The trim was supplied and fitted by Newton Commercial Trim with live displays showing people how to re-trim head linings and seat frames.

The 1380cc engine with Minispares gas flowed head on a Cooper S close ratio gearbox was built, tuned and fitted by Bill Richards Racing team.

Live commentary on fitting trim and the rebuild were given by Richard Newton and myself when available.

The Brooklands green body with a white roof was complimented by the superb porcelain green and dove grey trim.  A set of Minispares own 10” Rose petal wheels on a new 7.5 discs rather than the 12” wheel set up balances the perfect look of this gorgeous car.  All money from the ticket sales are being forwarded to the Mini Italian Job charity where the total proceeds will enrich the Variety charity for unfortunate children here in the UK.

Draw for the winner will be announced on 1st September 2014
