Using over 58 extra parts plus extensive machining the 5th gear is technically an overdrive gear 0.882-1 which equates to 3.037 when using 3.44 crown wheel and pinion.

It was 2 shades of grey with a white roof, and a smelly damp interior, but I soon had it sprayed in Red with a White roof and pillars. I started out with a rebuilt 850 engine as the original had a holed piston. My dad and I built it with a gas flowed head, not very powerful but incredible economical.

A total of 134 crews , including 39 Historics lined up for the 40th running of the Wervik Rally (pic1). We had some interesting competition in the up to 1300cc class with 2 Belgian Minis and a beautifully prepared 1975 Simca Rallye 2, which is quite a rarity these days and not seen in the UK. Henry Hardiment made a welcome return in his well rallied Cooper S “353 ACE” with my last year’s co driver Derek Webb in the hot seat, both of them living in the same Norfolk village. Read more
