X Pin Diff Mini Spares

The X-pin concept grew out of development work carried out by David Hirons in the mid Eighties to resolve the problem of persistent diff bevel gear and carrier failure on rear wheel drive Ford Escorts and Lotus Cortinas. The torque capacity of the diff could be increased by adding two extra bevel gears.

It was Mini Day at Brooklands on Sunday the 25th March 2012, and this year, the Museum in association with the London and Surrey Mini Owners Club, sponsored by MiniSpares and Palmer Brothers, managed to set a world record for the fastest build of a Classic Mini.

The car had been stripped down into modular parts and the team of eight rebuilt the vehicle replicating the production line at Longbridge, before racing the car up the legendary 1:8 Test Hill. Read more

We managed to do a bit of sightseeing in Kiev and said good bye to my first co-driver and picked up my second. Ukraine culminated in being fined 1km from the border for having too many lights on the mini!

At the end of 2007 we were kindly invited up to the British Motor Heritage centre in Witney scheduled for the end of January. As luck would have it, this nicely coincided with the latest build of Mini Bodyshells.

Having now covered 17000 miles in my twinpoint from new it developed bad oil leaks making it a true mini. The rocker cover seals perished along with a diff output shaft seal. The leaks now rectified, Duckhams oil was used to refill the engine.
