This plate has been modified by counter sinking the 2 main cap bolt holes to accept countersunk screws to give extra clearance and for those wishing to fit a duplex chain set up.

Screws are available as AEA687 top quality original Cooper S, or budget type CMZ407

These screws were used on all A series engines that had simplex chains (duplex used countersunk heads AEA687 for clearance). These screws fitted into the main bearing cap holding the front timing gear plate to the engine.
